Cóndor Paipa Geothermal Area
This map shows the area granted by the Ministry of Mines and Energy for exploration in the Cóndor Paipa geothermal area.
This corresponds to 9.98 km².
This delimitation establishes the perimeter within which technical studies may be carried out, aimed at characterizing and evaluating the geothermal resource.
It is important to clarify that:
It does not imply simultaneous or total intervention of the territory.
The activities in this stage are specific and will be carried out progressively and according to technical planning.
Exploratory activities will be conducted in accordance with
the environmental requirements and permits established
by the competent authority.

Strategic Approach and Phased Planning
The development of Cóndor Paipa will be carried out in several strategic phases, each focused on optimizing the use of the geothermal resource and ensuring the technical, economic and environmental sustainability of the project.
The main stages are described below:
The Energy of the Future Emerges Here
Economic Impact and Investment Projection
The Condor Paipa Geothermal Project is designed as a strategic long-term initiative that will drive economic, energy, and social development in the region. The project represents a potential investment of up to USD 180 million throughout its various development and expansion phases, reflecting the scale and significance of this commitment to Colombia’s energy transition.
With an estimated operational lifespan of 30 years, and through sustainable management practices and responsible stewardship of the geothermal resource, the project has the potential to generate benefits for more than a century. It is expected to become a catalyst for regional development, job creation, business growth, and the attraction of new investment opportunities.
The project's most significant economic impacts include:
Agricultural Sector
Tourism and Hospitality
Improving productivity in agro-industrial processes, promoting
sustainable practices and energy efficiency in agricultural production.

Development of thermal centres, eco-friendly destinations and tourist attractions that will take advantage of the region's natural resources, promoting more responsible and environmentally conscious tourism.

Key Project Components:
1. Electricity Generation

The project involves the construction of a geothermal plant that will supply clean and renewable energy to the Colombian electrical grid, using the favorable geological conditions of Boyacá.
2. CEG-Geothermal
Center of Excellence

The creation of a geothermal center of excellence is planned, which will serve as a space for training, research and knowledge transfer. This center will contribute to strengthening the geothermal industry in Colombia and Latin America.
3. Restructuring under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Model

The project is being restructured as a Public-Private Partnership (PPP), which will allow the active participation of various actors and will invest in strengthening public infrastructure and private investment.
4. Impact on Sustainability

The project is designed to integrate with the best sustainable practices, prioritizing environmental conservation and the efficient use of resources.
Strategic Importance:
Energy Diversification:
Regional Development:
Regional Reference:
The project will contribute to diversifying Colombia's energy matrix, reducing its dependence on fossil and hydroelectric sources.
It will generate a direct impact on the local economy, creating jobs and strengthening the capacity of communities to take advantage of natural resources in a sustainable manner.
Cóndor Paipa will position itself as a reference model for future geothermal projects in Latin America, contributing to the expansion of geothermal energy in the region.
