Dewhurst in front of the Russian Academy of Sciences

The Dewhurst Group, an American Company, is the result of over 20 years of world-wide experience. Many of our principal scientists and engineers have experience within the Russian Academy of Sciences and the origins of the magnetotelluric (MT) method.

The MT method was first proposed in the Soviet Union (now the Russian Federation) by A. N. Tikhonov in 1950 while at the Geophysical Institute of the Academy of Sciences, USSR. The Russian Academy of Sciences as well as theoreticians in academia and commerce have tremendous experience and their practical success in geothermal exploration is arguably unrivaled. Prominent Western academic institutions recognize this and actively pursue and employ Russian geophysical talent. Our principals participate as visiting lecturers and researchers all over the world including Russia, Japan, Finland, Sweden and the US. We believe that the combination of Russian and American know-how provides the best possible approach to the difficult problem of geothermal exploration.

Drs. Domaratskiy, Dewhurst, and Yu. Kopytenko (left to right) (circa 1991) standing in front of Smolny Institute, St. Petersburg, Russia. Smolny served as the Bolshevik headquarters during the October Revolution of 1917. A statue of Vladimir Lenin can be seen in the background. Dewhurst in his position as Chief Geophysicist of NOAA, Coast and Geodetic Survey, together with Domaratskiy and Yu. Kopytenko of the Russian Academy of Sciences, established the Geophysical Technology Transfer Initiative, a government program designed to promote scientific cooperation between Russia and the United States after the fall of communism. This personal and professional relationship provides the foundation for the Dewhurst Group.
