Services
The Dewhurst Group specializes exclusively in exploration for geothermal sources that are adequate for the generation of electrical power. We do not staff power plants, sell power to utilities, or compete with companies that supply such services.
Seeking all possible avenues for renewable energy is key to the future energy needs of our planet.
Our services include:
Finding geothermal sources for power generation is complicated and highly specialized.
Geophysics, geologic mapping, and geochemistry are used to locate geothermal sources. Read more...
Shallow Temperature Probes
Temperature measurements of the near-surface can provide valuable heat-flow information.
We offer shallow temperature observations as a companion data set to our magnetotelluric geophysical services. Those shallow data can be “blended” with existing boreholes temperature data to help extrapolate temperature gradients at depth. While the method is inexpensive there are some limitations and we treat these data as supplemental only. However, overall these data can be valuable, especially in dry climates.
Science
Geophysical methods reveal physical properties of Earth's interior by measuring it's response to various energy sources. Read more...

It pays to be careful.
Monitor your site for potential ground-movement hazards from the very beginning.
Micro-seismic events can lead to tremors, landslides and in extreme cases the possibility of earthquakes. It makes sense to develop a baseline record of ground movement before drilling commences and during exploitation. We can offer 24-hour a day site monitoring using remotely placed geophones (seismic), magnetometers and continuously operating differential GPS stations. Each plant site is different so our approach, method, and equipment are tailored specifically to your requirements. Our site monitoring methods, developed in conjunction with the Russian Academy of Sciences, St. Petersburg Branch of the Institute for Terrestrial Magnetism, Ionosphere and Radio Wave Propagation, have been in place in Russia, Asia, Europe, and Japan for decades, successfully monitoring small crustal movement as a predictor of potential catastrophic events.
Don't limit your options - look at the big picture.
The Dewhurst group routinely performs regional assessments before actually hitting the ground. We examine existing client data sets, open source literature and any other available information to provide a first-look analysis which can be used to locate potential survey areas within a region.
We can be your partners throughout the project.
As scientists and engineers with diversified backgrounds and world-wide project management experience, we can help a client with proposal requests, tenders, plant design choices, design of roads and infrastructure for exploration and production drilling pads and sites, procurement of materials and construction of the plant. Although we do not design or build plants we can help you decide on the appropriate choices given the resource.
An independent and unbiased assessment of a prospect is critical before you spend millions.
The Dewhurst Group can provide an independent assessment of an existing geothermal prospect for a client or a client's financial institution by:
- Re-processing a client's existing data sets,
- Analyzing previous results and performing quality control checks,
- Performing a new interpretation of old data using our own methods, and
- Assessing risk and recommending actions for success.
